Inauguration Highlights Mayor Wahab’s Development Efforts in Lyari: Restored Pumping Stations and Beautification Drive

Mayor Karachi has highlighted the rejuvenation of nine pumping stations within his jurisdiction. Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized that these efforts not only restore functionality but also aim to improve aesthetics around said facilities, which have faced neglect due to various factors including water theft through sewage networks. The initiative is part of broader development plans for all seven districts under his leadership and promises further enhancements in public amenities like street lights—an endeavor that began last month with significant progress made within just 35 days, as reported by Pakistan Point News.

During a recent visit to the locality of Lyari where he inaugurated several projects including Shaheed Waja Ahmed Karim Dad Family Park in Miran Naka and Maula Madad Pumping Station—along with Shakoor Shaheed Pumping Station, barrister Murtaza Wahab announced these undertakings:

  • A comprehensive strategy has been put into place to tackle the city’s persistent water scarcity and load shedding problems.
  • 18 new pumps have been installed for nine stations of Karachi Water & Sewage Corporation (KWSC), while ten additional vertical pumps were acquired as a preemptive measure against potential difficulties within Lyari area. New generators are also being procured to mitigate issues arising from load shedding, with ongoing restoration work for Jamila Pumping Station and Shireen Jinnah Colony’s station in progress under the city administration’in charge of KWSC Asadullah Khan.
  • An extensive plan involving construction to lay an elevated sewage line consisting of three sections is being undertaken, following a successful public demonstration led by Deputy Mayor Karachi and local party leaders like Dil Muhammad Jumman Durrani aimed at curbing water theft through enhanced surveillance along Lyari’s network.
  • Plans for laying down an additional canal from Hub Dam to supply potable water have been set in motion, with progress expected as early as August of this year after groundwork commenced last month and rapid advancements achieved within 35 days thus far—a testament to the commitment towards sustainable resource management.
  • The ceremony also witnessed participation from key members including local leaders, elected representatives, workers across various sectors representing constituencies in Karachi’s city council led by Dil Muhammad and deputy parliamentary leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) district office bearers who collectively supported the initiative.
  • The concluding remarks were made with a forward-looking promise from barrister Murtaza Wahab, stating that under his stewardship, Karachi’s development trajectory will continue to flourish in all seven districts and assuring citizens of an affluent future for their city.
