City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab’s Stand on Substandard Development Work
Murtaza Wahab declared at a meeting that he would not tolerate poor quality development work by contractors and has issued withholding payments to the offending parties.
“Poor quality construction will not be tolerated.”
A review report led Mayor Murtaza Wahab, during his leadership of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s engineering department meeting on January 5th, 2025. The decision was made after contractors were found to have substandard work done for the Ghulam Allana Road project and withholding payments is now mandated as per orders issued by Mayor Wahab in this regard[^1][^3].
The mayor voiced zero tolerance towards any form of low-quality construction, ensuring his commitment to maintain standards across all ongoing projects. He stated that the city’s primary objective with infrastructure development is enhancing facilities for citizens and addressing their concerns.[^2] A comprehensive plan was announced by him in this regard[^3].
Apart from improving existing work, he has ordered installing of newly designed streetlight poles to enhance Karachi’s beauty. He urged efforts towards ensuring high-quality roads and footpaths for overall city aesthetics improvement too.[^1] The mayor emphasized the need in this regard during his meeting[^2].
