Commissioner Karachi’s Visit to Lyari and District South – Thursday, December 5th, 2024

The City of Lights, Syed Hassan Naqvi with Deputy Commissioner Altaf Sarrio conducted a comprehensive review tour in various locales within Lyari. They aimed to address the pressing issues related to traffic and civic problems.*


During his visit, he inspected Burns Road (urdu Bazaar), Lea Market, Juna Market, Pan Mandi among other sites. The Commissioner noticed several soft encroachments obstructing smooth vehicular movement in these areas:*

  • Soft Encroachment on Burns Road impeding traffic flow and posing a risk to public safety due to unregulated garbage disposal, causing severe congestion during peak hours. The Commissioner directed relevant authorities for immediate removal of the encroachments as well as improvement in sanitation arrangements at dumping points on footpaths and roads.*
  • Soft Encroachment blocking Juna Market with piles of refuse creating a health hazard, unpleasant visuals along Burns Road causing nuisance to residents. The Commissioner directed for immediate removal while emphasizing the need for continuous sanitation at garbage dumping points on footpaths and roads.*
  • Soft Encroachment in Napier Road with waste accumulating creating a repelling environment, obstructing visibility leading not only environmental concerns but also affects local business activities. The Commissioner instructed relevant authorities to address the issue urgently for immediate removal of encroachments and improved garbage management.*
  • Encroachment on Shah Waliullah Road causing pedestrians inconvenience, obstructing emergency vehicles passage with a significant risk during night time. The Commissioner demanded that these hindrances be removed promptly to ensure safe transit of civilians and essential services.*
  • Encroachment on Daryabad Mari Pur Road causing obstruction in traffic flow which affects the daily commute, posing safety concerns especially for late night drivers. Immediate removal is ordered by Commissioner Naqvi along with better garbage disposal system establishment at footpaths and roads to minimize nuisances.*
  • Encroachment on Pan Mandi causing significant obstruction in traffic flow as well as aesthetic displeasure, affecting the overall appeal of Lyari. Urgent removal order given by Commissioner Naqvi*

In addition to review and directive concerning civic issues during his visit to Lyari, he took interest in enhancing local amenities for citizens:

  • Visit made to Street Library at Art Chowk, urged restoration of the library as a means to facilitate better access to books among locals. Recognized potential role Town Administration could play*

In conclusion and with an aim towards improving civic life in Lyari:

  • Immediate removal order given for encroachments on footpaths, roads obstructing vehicular movement within the locality. Requested continuous garbage disposal maintenance at dump points to reduce inconveniences caused by unattended waste piles.*
