Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday expressed his delight in the successful relocation of elephant Madhubala from Karachi Zoo to Safari Park. Following her transfer, she will now share habitat with two existing elephants at Safaripark where they can live freely and comfortably together after 15 years spent alone.
During a press conference alongside Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jumman Durwan of Four Paws, President Josef Pfabigan, Dr. Amir Khalil representing the Zoo Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Yusra Askari as Coordinator for Four Paws and Imran Rajput from Safari Park’s Senior Directorate, Barrister Wahab highlighted international collaboration on behzonec to safeguard animal well-being. He stated:
“The joint strategy between KMC Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, myself and other officials has been developed with Four Paws’ cooperation for the animals’ healthcare.”
Barrister Wahab reiterated his commitment to animal welfare as he acknowledged international aid in securing Madhubala’s safe transfer. With ongoing efforts, plans are afoot to enhance facilities at Karachi Zoo and Safari Park for public entertainment while adding more animals into the fold of these parks’ ecosystem.
In an era where developmental projects meet challenges from certain factions seeking personal gains, Barrister Wahab reassured that progress was not about authority but willingness to work hard and collaborate for common good as he shared his perspective on broader issues:
“It’s a matter of satisfaction knowing our team has managed the transfer successfully.”
Furthermore, Mayor Barrister Wahab addressed concerns regarding an article restricting certain activities within city limits. He clarified that it was not about legality but rather willingness and resolve to work for betterment as he discussed complexities surrounding this issue with reporters:
“The problem is less about the legal stance, which has never been questioned regarding our commitments.”
Lastly, Barrister Wahab expressed his satisfaction in seeing Madhubala’s relocation progress from Safari Park as he inspected and commended ongoing efforts to provide suitable facilities for her care:
“I am pleased with the time we’ve spent working together. It has been a memorable experience.”
As part of his visit, Mayor Wahab directed that Madhubala receive top-notch animal care from Safari Park staff and Dr. Amir Khalil called this effort as proactive measures by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for the betterment of animals in their city:
