KARACHI: A woman killed by her husband allegedly over honour outside city on Wednesday.
Police arrested Ali Hasan Sheikh for the murder of his wife Parveen at Shah Latif Town’s Sector-17-A, where they had lived with their seven children since moving from Larkana nine months prior to work in a factory there. The suspect confessed under police interrogation that he attacked and stabbed his wife out of suspicion about her character after seeing him leaving the house early on Wednesday morning; no remorse was shown for this act, according to SHO Mumtaz Marwat.
The body is currently at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) pending legal procedures. Parveen’s mother and four siblings remain with her husband in the Shah Latif Town flat after she left them due to a dispute over an inheritance, per SHO Mumtaz Marwat; he was unaware of these details as they were shared by his wife prior to moving back into their joint family home.
Two men die by suicide
Meer Wais (31), and Irshad Munawar (26) both took their own lives with a ceiling fan in Clifton on Wednesday, police said; details of the cases are as follows:
- A man killed himself at home, per DIG Syed Asad Raza. Meer Wais was found hanging from his sixth floor flat’s ceiling fan by family members around 5 a.m.; he had been struggling with financial issues and took this extreme step, SHO Amir Azam told Dawn about the incident after speaking to police;
- Irshad Munawar killed himself at home, per local media reports on November 13th. Irshad’s family reported his body hanging from a ceiling fan in their Abbasi Shaheed Hospital room shortly before midnight that same day, where medico-legal procedures are underway;
Meer Wais and Irshad both suffered mental health issues at some point during life according to friends or relatives who knew them. In recent times it has become an increasing public concern in Pakistan as young people seem more vulnerable than ever before due primarily but not exclusively too much exposure on social media leading individuals into unrealistic expectations of romantic relationships; this couple’s tragic actions may also suggest a sense that there isn’t enough support available when dealing with such issues.
