Mayor Karachi Announces Full Support for Champions Trophy Hosting in KMC Facilities
Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has declared that once the International Cricket Council (ICC) finalizes the schedule, they will fully back hosting the tournament’s matches within their own city and with full support. He expressed his gratitude for being chosen to host this major event during an interview at KMC Head Office alongside Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
- The Mayor extends heartfelt thanks to PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) for selecting Karachi as the venue and regards it a great honor.
- The arrival of Champions Trophy in our city is truly an exciting milestone, he remarked, assuring fans that they can expect top-quality cricket during this globally anticipated tournament slated to occur after its last edition in November 2017 and before the next one planned for 2025.
- The Mayor highlights Karachi’s passionate cricket audience, emphasizing their eagerness to welcome international teams that will be warmly received. “Karachiites are ready with open hearts”, he expressed confidence in his words while assuring the presence of all municipal amenities for matches by KMC (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation).
- The Mayor firmly believes changing host cities or dividing it between countries is wrong, asserting that such actions would neither be legally nor ethically justified. He also mentioned local leadership’s readiness to facilitate the tournament in Karachi and his desire for PCB memberships from Pakistani players arriving in town due to their country of origin commonalities with many teammates, which could foster unity amongst them on foreign soil — a testament to Karachi’s welcoming spirit.
- The occasion was also marked by the presence and warm welcome extended towards visiting PCB members who have been invited for this historic moment in Karachi’s cricket history alongside esteemed figures like MPA (Member Parliamentary Leader) of People’s Party, Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Member Parliamentary Leader Dil Mohammad and others.
