Lahore Bar Association and Karachi Bar Association Condemn FIAs Against Journalist Harmeet Singh – UrduPoint, Pakistan Point News (18th Dec 2024)
The Lahore Bar Association along with the Karachi Bar Association, have strongly condemned the registration of FIRs by the Federal Investigation Agency against senior journalist Harmeet Singh. Both associations termed this action as a clear violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression, which is guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973[^1].
In their statements, both Bar Associations emphasized the need to protect journalists from harassment and intimidation. They reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding human rights by urging relevant authorities to immediately withdraw these FIRs[^2]. This ensures an environment where journalists can perform their professional duties without fear or pressure, thereby preserving press freedom in a democratic society.[^1]: As per both Bar Associations’ statements: “This action is not only unlawful but also poses serious threats to the principles of justice and human rights.”
