Street Crime in Karachi: A Growing Concern

According to the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), as many as 51 citizens lost their lives during various incidents of firing in September 2025 across Karachi, primarily due to resistance to robberies.
Here are some key crime figures for September:
- Motorcycle Theft: 3,181 motorcycles stolen
- Bike Snatching: 517 bikes snatched
- Mobile Snatching: 1,542 cases of mobile phone snatching
- Vehicle Theft: 27 vehicles snatched, an additional 172 cars stolen
- Extortion: 3 reported incidents
The CPLC's data highlights a disturbing trend in Karachi's street crime. Earlier this year, in August, there were 5,554 street crime incidents, resulting in 54 deaths. Similar concerning statistics have been recorded for July (5,739 cases, 60 fatalities) and other months of 2025.
Analysts attribute these rising numbers to insufficient policing resources and weak case follow-up by authorities.
