Police thwart march by differently abled near Karachi Press Club

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Differently abled persons on Tuesday staged a protest sit-in near the Karachi Press Club. Causing traffic congestion in one of Pakistan’s most bustling business districts. This is not an exhaustive list, you could consider adding other relevant points.

The Blind Action Committee demanded that the government implement a five per cent job quota for them on this significant day. They also requested permanent employment for special persons who are currently working in temporary or ad hoc positions. Unfortunately, their march was halted by police barricades and some protesters were taken away as well; an incident not uncommon during such events here. The closure of roads to the Red Zone further amplified traffic issues impacting motorists and commuters alike [Published in Dawn, December 4th, 2024].

Reactions from Law Enforcement Officials:

Artillery Maidan SHO Chaudhry Zahid Husain insisted that no protester was arrested. He acknowledged the ongoing presence of their peaceful demonstration in front of the KPC throughout late evening.
