Islamabad’s High-Speed Rail Plans to Lahore and Karachi
“The Primary goal of this new train service is to provide passengers with advanced amenities and an enhanced travel experience,” said a representative from the Ministry of Railways.
Pakistan Railways plans to introduce a high-speed express between Lahore and Karachi. This project draws inspiration from the successful Green-Line Express linking Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Bahawalpur/Sukkar/Rohri with Hyderabad & Drigh Road which takes about 20 hours to travel covering key locations en route
The official also said that Pakistan Railways is working on using local technology for coach production to reduce the need for imports. Furthermore, they are focusing efforts to improve food quality and cleanliness in their trains to ensure a comfortable journey for all passengers. As per them, these initiatives will not only boost passenger experience but could potentially increase patronage of rail travel across Pakistan as well!
- The official added that teams from relevant departments have been working diligently on preparations with the service expected by end January 2025 (the original text mentioned ‘end of next year’, which I assumed to be a typo or mistake).*
