Thousands Protest Against Killings in Parachinar, Karachi
A religiopolitical party protesting against killings in Parachinar expanded its protest here on Thursday.
Traffic authorities issued traffic plans to avoid inconveniening commuters due to the demonstrations.
Ishaq Hussain and Waseem Hussain, residents of Parachinar, had hired people from their homeland when they arrived back in Pakistan after returning abroad on Sunday night. They were shot dead by suspects while being waylaid near Bagan area’s Kurram Valley Road (Mazari).
The Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen was the first to stage a sit-in at MA Jinnah Road and Abbas Town on Abul Hasan Ispahani road in Karachi, where they show solidarity with heirs of victims for three days now
A traffic police spokesman said that the main national highway was closed from Malir-15 Bridge towards Quaidabad because of sit-ins by protestors at Numaish Chowrangi and Abbas Town on Thursday night, as well in Malir area.
The traffic is being diverted from Malir towards Model Colony via Islamabad International Airport (ISB).
Earlier today at a sit-in held continuously since last night, MWM central leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi said they were holding peaceful protests against “barbarism” and demanded justice for the killings in Parachinar.
Traffic police have chalked out traffic plans from Star Gate/Natha Khan on National Highway (Malir-15), to Sharea Pakistan, Ancholi through Rizvia Chowrangi and Nazimabad; Korangi, Gulistan-i-Jauhar via Abbas Town in the city’s southwest before proceeding towards Steel Town/Gulshan-e-Hadeed and North Karachi.
Traffic police issued another statement at 9:43pm that due to demonstrations by a religious political party, roads leading from Sharea Faisal were closed on Thursday night along with the city’s main national highway and other arterial routes for motorists heading towards Parachinar or coming back home after visiting there
“Members of a religiopolitical party are protesting against an incident in Parachinar,” said traffic police.
Traffic from Star Gate/Natha Khan on National Highway (Malir-15), coming towards Drigh Road is being diverted to Rashid Manhas Road via Sialkot Avenue and New Nagrota, while traffic arriving in the city from Abbas Town is now directed from Malir toward Shah Faisal Colony Bridge; instead of Sharea Pakistan (Ancholi), commuters are routed towards Shah Faisal Chowrangi as well, which will then lead them to Abbas Town and Drigh Road via Shah Jehan Khan Colony on National Highway 5 Link near the city’s north exit gate (Sher Bazaar).
The traffic police have informed that demonstrations are continuing in Malir area at Namaish Chowrangi, where thousands of people took part and also marched towards Abbas Town on National Highway, while the road was closed for motorists from Quaidabad to Sharea Faisal due to protests
