The Cold Wave Intensifies Over Karachi as Temperatures Drop to an Arctic Low of 8.5°C This Weekend and Throughout the Holiday Season
The prevailing cold wave in the metropolis intensified further, with temperature dropping to a chilly 6.5 degrees Celsius*. The ongoing cold spell is brought about by a high pressure area over Afghanistan along with an approaching ‘westerly disturbance’._
- Minimum temperatures recorded range from 6.5°C in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, to 8°C at Jinnah Terminal and Sharea Faisal (also the city’s lowest ever minimum of 1.3°C on Dec 14th). The warmest areas are Mauripur with 9°C
- Expected temperatures for tomorrow: a range between 8°C to 10°C over two days in Karachi and all province except Mohenjo Daro, Mithi & Chhor (recorded lows of 4.5°C). Highs are expected at around 27°C tomorrow with humidity 38 per cent.
- Winds from the west bring clouds covering parts of Sindh and Punjab today, but no rain is anticipated as a muggy fog hangs low over Karachi. The Met advises caution in driving due to potential flooding on roads where water pools under bridges or at end points near drainage._
- The lowest ever minimum temperature of 1986 recorded on December 14th was an arctic cold snap that brought the mercury down below -0.5°C, making it one for history books.
