Committee established to analyze Karachi’s 2025 e-challan system

KARACHI: A high-level committee has been formed to review the E-Challan system in Karachi, as reported by ARY News. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar chairs this committee, which includes opposition leaders from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and representatives from the provincial assembly.

- Secretaries: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Pir Muhammad Shah
- Members: Other members of the provincial assembly and secretaries of the Home and Law Departments.
The committee aims to conduct a thorough review of the E-Challan system, focusing on traffic fine policies and user experience improvements. They will also analyze the effectiveness of the system introduced in 2025.
Recent Statistics:
- Over 23,000 citizens have visited facilitation centers since the implementation of e-challans.
- Fewer than 200 challenges have been made against e-challans, with 90% of them being waived.
- Total fines collected amount to PKR 25 million from approximately 4,000 challans.
The next phase involves combating parking violations through ground and aerial surveillance, utilizing cameras, scanners, and drones installed on traffic police vehicles.
IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, highlighted the positive impact of the cashless e-challan system, which has improved traffic law adherence and reduced travel delays. The technology will be expanded to other cities in the province under the new Motor Vehicle Act, with facilitation centers established across all districts.
