Vehicle Number Plate Crackdown in Karachi

Karachi, March 29, 2026 – Sindh Police have extended the deadline for their crackdown on unapproved vehicle and motorcycle number plates until March 31, 2026, providing more time for the public to comply. The formal enforcement will begin on April 1, 2026.

Police will take strict action against drivers using private, non-standard, or "fancy" plates, as well as those driving without a valid license. This operation is in line with orders from Karachi Police Chief, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan.

Citizens are urged to install government-approved number plates to avoid legal action. Earlier, the Sindh transport department launched a similar crackdown on vehicles using bogus fitness certificates.
